Bo Adams was disappointed he didn't end his high school football
career with a state championship, but he didn't leave Refugio without his share
of honors.
Adams was selected to the first team of the
Texas Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State Team for the second
consecutive season.
Adams, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior, was
chosen on the defensive line and Refugio teammate Jourdan
Ortiz, a 6-1, 165-pound junior, was named to the first team at wide receiver.
Industrial's Dillon Koop, a 5-11, 177-pound
senior, was selected to the first team at punter and Rice Consolidated's
Zacchaeus Foster, a 5-8, 185-pound senior, was picked
to the first team at running back.
Adams had 151 tackles, including 65 solo
stops, 24 tackles for losses, five sacks, 15 quarterback hurries and three
caused fumbles for the Bobcats, who advanced to the Division II quarterfinals
for the second consecutive season.
"Bo's a coach's dream," Refugio
coach Jason Herring said. "He just has a motor. A lot of great football
players out there will take a play off. Of all the players I've made a
highlight tape of he's one of the very few who go 100 percent on every
play."
Ortiz had 90 receptions for 1,403 yards and 15
touchdowns for the 13-1 Bobcats.
"We knew he was going to be special when
he led our mile relay team to the state meet," Herring said. "He's
just a tall, rangy kid who we were hoping would became our go-to-guy and we're
real excited he did."
Koop averaged 43.7 yards on his 27 punts for
the Cobras, who advanced to the Division II regional playoffs and finished at
12-2.
"He was a good athlete who played in our
secondary and at running back," Industrial coach Doug Kuhlmann
said. "When he did punt, he was our safety man back there. He was not only
a good athlete, he worked at it. We were fortunate that we didn't have to punt
that often, but when we did he gave us that field position that is so
important."
Foster rushed 300 times for 1,875 yards and 20
touchdowns and caught nine passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns for the
Raiders, who advanced to the Division I semifinals and finished at 12-1.
"I'm excited for him," Rice
Consolidated coach Brad Dumont said of Foster, who along with wide receiver
Marquis Toliver will play football at Blinn College next season. "He's one of the hardest
working kids I've ever been around and he deserves everything he gets."
Refugio junior offensive tackle Dylan Klare and Rice Consolidated junior defensive lineman Chris
Dorsey were selected to the second team.
Earning honorable mention were Refugio
quarterback Kyle Hendley and kicker Eric Martinez,
Industrial offensive tackle Robbie Riehs and
linebacker Ryan Richter, Hallettsville defensive lineman Jeremy Gutierrez, East
Bernard running back Lance Crump and defensive lineman Randy Perkins, Boling
wide receiver Kalin Ray, Schulenburg linebacker Colt Fredrich, Weimar offensive tackle Coy Guentert,
and Rice Consolidated's Toliver
and Mario Hull at wide receiver, Myles Dumont at quarterback, and Damian
Stevens at linebacker.
Muleshoe quarterback Wes Wood was selected as
the offensive player of the year and Daingerfield linebacker Carl Moore and
Muleshoe linebacker Lane Wood were chosen as co-defensive players of the year.
David Wood, who led Muleshoe to the Division I
state championship, was named coach of the year.
